Malaysia's Education Ministry Orders School Outdoor Ban During Hazardous Air Quality
Educational institutions across Malaysia must suspend outdoor activities when the Air Pollutant Index exceeds 100, the Education Ministry announced on Tuesday. The directive aims to protect students and staff from health risks associated with poor air quality.

The Education Ministry has issued mandatory guidelines requiring all schools and educational institutions under its jurisdiction to halt outdoor activities whenever the API reading surpasses the 100-point threshold, which indicates unhealthy air quality levels.
The move comes as part of the government's broader efforts to safeguard student welfare during periods of haze and air pollution. When API levels reach 100 or higher, indoor activities and modified schedules will be implemented to minimise exposure to hazardous air particulates.
Educational institutions have been instructed to monitor real-time API readings and implement the suspension protocols immediately upon the index breaching the specified limit. Schools are also expected to communicate any changes to parents and guardians promptly.
The directive applies to all primary and secondary schools, as well as higher education institutions under the Education Ministry's purview. Authorities have emphasised that the measure prioritises the health and safety of students, teachers, and support staff during seasonal haze events that frequently affect the region.
