Malaysia's Fire and Rescue Department is moving to establish safety guidelines for home electric vehicle charging stations as the country sees growing numbers of residents installing chargers on their properties.
Director-General Nor Hisham Mohamad indicated that the formal guidelines have become necessary given the increasing prevalence of domestic EV charging infrastructure. The move reflects concerns about potential fire risks and electrical safety issues associated with improper installation or maintenance of residential charging systems.
The proposed guidelines are expected to address key safety parameters including proper electrical specifications, installation standards, maintenance protocols, and emergency response procedures. Officials have not yet announced a timeline for finalisation or implementation of the new regulations.
