Malaysia's JPJ halts Chery Omoda 5 approvals over rear axle defect

Malaysia's Road Transport Department (JPJ) has suspended approval for the Chery Omoda 5 sports utility vehicle and halted new vehicle registrations following a recent rear axle failure incident.

The regulatory action comes after an axle detachment issue was reported on the model. In response, the JPJ has initiated a comprehensive technical audit to investigate the underlying causes and assess the vehicle's structural integrity.

The suspension remains in effect pending the outcome of the technical review. Vehicle owners and prospective buyers of the Chery Omoda 5 are affected by the registration freeze.

The move underscores regulatory oversight of vehicle safety standards in Malaysia. The JPJ has not announced a timeline for resolution or when approvals may be reinstated, pending completion of the technical audit and remedial measures by the manufacturer.
