Malaysia's MM2H visa programme generates RM8.85 billion in less than two years

Malaysia's Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) visa programme has generated RM8.85 billion in economic gains in less than two years, according to a government official. The Deputy Minister highlighted the scheme's robust performance, noting strong interest from international applicants seeking to establish residency in the country.

China emerged as the leading source of MM2H applications between October 2024 and August this year, with 3,847 citizens lodging applications during the period. Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States rounded out the top five source markets, reflecting the programme's appeal across Asia and beyond.

The MM2H scheme, which was revamped to attract high-net-worth individuals and retirees, has established itself as a significant contributor to Malaysia's economy. The programme allows foreign nationals to reside in Malaysia long-term, subject to meeting financial and other eligibility requirements.

The strong uptake from Chinese applicants underscores the growing interest among affluent Asian individuals in securing alternative residency options. Government officials have positioned the MM2H scheme as a cornerstone initiative for attracting foreign investment and high-value residents to the country.
