KUALA LUMPUR — The Ministry of Finance is finalising a legislative proposal to enhance governance frameworks for statutory bodies and government-linked companies, according to officials overseeing the initiative.

The proposed law seeks to establish clearer accountability measures and operational standards for entities operating under government ownership or control. The framework is expected to address structural gaps in existing oversight mechanisms and align governance practices across the public sector.

Government-linked companies and statutory bodies play a significant role in Malaysia's economy, managing assets and delivering essential services. Strengthening their governance architecture has become a priority amid broader efforts to enhance public sector efficiency and transparency.

The MOF has not disclosed specific timelines for finalising the legislative proposal or details regarding its scope and implementation mechanisms. Officials indicated that the initiative remains under active development and would be subject to further review before formal submission to Parliament.
