Malaysia's neutral role crucial to Bangsamoro peace process, says MILF

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has underscored Malaysia's critical importance in advancing the Bangsamoro peace process, citing the nation's credibility as a neutral intermediary between the separatist group and the Philippine government.
Mohagher Iqbal, a senior MILF official, stated that both the rebel organisation and Manila have established a strong degree of confidence in Malaysia's impartial stance throughout the protracted negotiations. This trust in Malaysia's neutrality has been instrumental in maintaining dialogue between the parties, Iqbal indicated.
The peace process, aimed at resolving decades of conflict in Mindanao, has seen Malaysia play a long-standing role as facilitator and host of negotiations. The MILF's endorsement of Malaysia's neutrality reflects the importance of trusted third-party mediation in resolving the dispute.
The Bangsamoro region has been a flashpoint of armed conflict for generations, with multiple peace agreements pursued since the 1970s. Malaysia's consistent diplomatic involvement has made it a recognised and respected mediator in regional peace efforts.
