The number of registered drug addicts in Malaysia stands at 130,307 as of June, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The figure was announced during an event in Bentong, underscoring the scale of drug addiction as a persistent social issue affecting the nation. The disclosure comes amid continued efforts by authorities to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse through enforcement and rehabilitation programmes.
The Home Ministry has been tasked with coordinating responses to the drug problem, working alongside the National Anti-Drugs Agency (ADUM) and other enforcement bodies. The registration of addicts forms part of a broader strategy to track and provide intervention for individuals struggling with substance dependency.
Experts have emphasised the need for comprehensive approaches combining law enforcement, treatment facilities, and community support systems to address the multifaceted nature of drug addiction in Malaysia.
