Malaysia set to recruit 200,000 Bangladeshi workers over six months
Bangladesh has announced plans to send 200,000 workers to Malaysia, with recruitment beginning in late September through a phased approach involving multiple agencies.

Malaysia is preparing to welcome 200,000 workers from Bangladesh as part of a coordinated labour recruitment initiative, according to a Bangladeshi junior minister. The influx will address labour shortages in the region and strengthen bilateral workforce ties between the two nations.
Recruit will commence from the end of September, with the process unfolding in phases to ensure orderly processing and placement. A Bangladeshi government official stated that various recruitment agencies will be tasked with identifying and vetting suitable candidates for positions in Malaysia.
The phased approach is designed to accommodate both Malaysian employers and Bangladeshi workers, allowing adequate time for documentation, skills assessment, and pre-departure orientation. This systematic rollout is expected to span approximately six months from its September start date.
The initiative reflects Malaysia's continued reliance on foreign labour to sustain its manufacturing, construction, and service sectors. Bangladesh has long been a significant source of migrant workers for the region, with many seeking employment opportunities abroad to support families and improve their economic circumstances.
