The RTS Link, the eagerly anticipated cross-border rail connection between Malaysia and Singapore, will not begin operations until February 2027, marking a two-month delay from the previously announced December 2026 opening date.
Project officials confirmed that comprehensive system tests and trial runs are expected to be finalised by 31 December, allowing adequate time for final verification and regulatory approvals before commencing commercial service.
The light rail connection, which will link Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands in Singapore, represents a significant infrastructure milestone for both nations. The 4.2-kilometre link is designed to streamline cross-border travel and reduce congestion on existing road networks.
The delay, while modest, reflects the complexity of coordinating a binational transport project and ensuring stringent safety and operational standards are met. Officials have indicated that the additional weeks will be utilised to complete final commissioning procedures and staff training programmes.
Once operational, the RTS Link is projected to serve approximately 10,000 daily commuters during its initial phase, with capacity expected to rise significantly as cross-border traffic patterns stabilise.
