Malaysia, Singapore test joint emergency response for RTS Link

Malaysia and Singapore have successfully conducted a major emergency response exercise on the RTS Link, the new rapid transit system linking Johor Bahru with Singapore. The bilateral drill was designed to evaluate both nations' preparedness for potential incidents including fires, medical emergencies and other mass casualty scenarios on the cross-border rail facility.

The exercise involved personnel from Malaysian and Singaporean emergency services, including fire brigades, police, medical teams and transit authorities. Participants conducted realistic simulations covering evacuation procedures, rescue operations, casualty triage and inter-agency coordination across the border checkpoint. The drill also tested communication systems and protocols established under the bilateral agreement governing the shared facility.

Official participants confirmed that the exercise validated existing emergency management frameworks and identified operational efficiencies in the joint response mechanism. Both governments emphasised their commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards on the RTS Link, which has become a critical transport corridor for cross-border commuters and commerce.

The successful completion of the drill underscores the collaborative approach Malaysia and Singapore have adopted in managing the shared infrastructure project. Further regular exercises are anticipated to ensure continuous readiness and refinement of cross-border emergency procedures.
