Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim underscored the nation's unwavering position during recent talks, signalling that any resolution must respect Malaysia's legitimate claims in the region.
The Malaysia-Brunei border demarcation has remained a lingering diplomatic challenge, with both nations unable to reach consensus on maritime boundaries despite numerous rounds of negotiation over the past several decades. The issue touches on strategic waters and potential resource rights in the South China Sea region, making it a matter of considerable importance to both governments.
During discussions held in Brunei's capital, Anwar emphasised that while Malaysia remains committed to finding a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution, the country will not yield on matters affecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Officials indicated that both nations continue to explore diplomatic channels to address the dispute constructively.
