Malaysia to crack down on MM2H visa holders running illegal businesses

Malaysia's tourism, arts and culture minister has called for stricter enforcement action against MM2H visa holders who are circumventing programme restrictions by conducting business activities they are prohibited from undertaking.
The minister emphasised that authorities must take decisive steps to address the issue of participants breaching the terms of the Malaysia My Second Home programme, which allows foreign nationals to reside in Malaysia on a long-term basis.
Under the MM2H scheme's conditions, participants are generally barred from engaging in commercial activities or employment in Malaysia. However, some holders have allegedly continued to operate businesses in violation of these stipulations.
The enforcement push comes as Malaysian authorities seek to ensure compliance with the visa programme's regulations and prevent exploitation of the scheme's provisions. Officials are expected to increase monitoring and investigation efforts to identify and penalise violators.
The crackdown signals the government's commitment to maintaining the integrity of the MM2H programme while protecting legitimate business interests and upholding the conditions set for foreign residents under the scheme.
