Malaysia's Road Transport Department will require all counter transactions to be handled exclusively by JPJ-approved intermediaries starting January 2027. The move aims to standardise service delivery and consumer protection across the country.

Only registered individuals and company representatives approved by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be permitted to handle customer transactions at service counters nationwide from 1 January 2027, authorities announced in Arau. The regulatory requirement will apply uniformly across all JPJ service centres and authorised counters throughout Malaysia. This enforcement marks a significant shift in how the department manages customer-facing operations and transaction processing. The intermediaries must meet JPJ's established criteria and maintain their registration status to continue operating at counters. The department has indicated that compliance will ensure consistent service standards and strengthen consumer protection mechanisms across all transaction types handled at these facilities. Stakeholders have been given several months to prepare for the implementation, allowing sufficient time for existing counter staff and intermediaries to complete the necessary registration and approval processes with JPJ.
