KUALA LUMPUR — Complaints about misleading online health advertisements and promotions will be forwarded to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for review, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced on Friday.

The decision follows growing concerns about deceptive health claims circulating on digital platforms, which may violate existing advertising standards and consumer protection regulations. Fahmi said the referral process would enable the MCMC to investigate alleged violations and take appropriate enforcement action where necessary.

The move reflects Malaysia's broader effort to safeguard consumers from fraudulent health-related marketing, particularly through social media and online platforms where such advertisements proliferate. The MCMC has been tasked with ensuring that online health promotions comply with regulatory requirements.

Consumers who encounter suspicious health advertisements can lodge complaints through official channels, which will subsequently be assessed by the commission. The initiative underscores the government's commitment to maintaining standards in digital advertising and protecting the public from potentially harmful or false health claims.
