Malaysia to re-export 436 containers of e-waste this month

Malaysia's customs authority is actively addressing an influx of illegal electronic waste shipments, with 436 containers scheduled for re-export this month and a further 578 containers expected to follow in the coming weeks. The seizures are part of a broader enforcement operation targeting prohibited imports. According to the Customs Department's director-general Shuhaily Zain, electronic waste and narcotics have emerged as primary categories of contraband intercepted by the agency throughout the year. The re-export operations underscore Malaysia's commitment to preventing the country from becoming a dumping ground for developed nations' discarded electronics. Authorities have intensified monitoring at ports and borders to intercept shipments attempting to enter under false declarations or mislabeled cargo manifests.
