Malaysia to repatriate 3,524 Myanmar nationals in second phase

The Malaysian government has confirmed plans to send back 3,524 Myanmar nationals as part of its second repatriation initiative, signalling a continued commitment to managing the influx of displaced persons from the neighbouring country.

Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil indicated that the repatriation effort remains active, with authorities maintaining dialogue to enable the orderly return of Myanmar nationals to their homeland. The spokesman noted that talks between relevant agencies are ongoing to support additional returns beyond the current phase.

Malaysia has long served as a destination for migrants and refugees fleeing instability in Myanmar. The repatriation programme represents efforts by Kuala Lumpur to balance humanitarian concerns with immigration management, working in coordination with regional and international partners.

The timing and specific logistics of the second phase repatriation have not been disclosed. Malaysian authorities have previously emphasised the voluntary nature of repatriation efforts, ensuring that returns comply with international humanitarian standards and bilateral agreements with Myanmar's authorities.
