Malaysia to table Tabung Haji Act amendments in 2025

The Malaysian government plans to table amendments to the Tabung Haji Act in 2025 as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the pilgrimage fund's governance and operations, Religious Affairs Minister Zulkifli Hasan announced.

Zulkifli said Tabung Haji has already implemented 13 of the 17 recommendations that fall under its direct responsibility. The remaining recommendations, he indicated, require legislative changes that will be pursued through the parliamentary amendment process.

The amendments aim to address governance concerns and operational improvements at the Islamic pilgrimage fund, which manages savings for Malaysian Muslims planning to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage. The move comes as the fund continues recovery efforts following financial challenges in previous years.

Tabung Haji has undertaken several institutional reforms to rebuild confidence among its members and ensure sustainable management of accumulated pilgrimage funds. The legislative amendments are expected to provide additional safeguards and enhance the fund's regulatory framework.
