KUALA LUMPUR — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has renewed its appeal for Malaysians to register with the E-Konsular system, a digital platform designed to help the government track and assist citizens during emergencies abroad.
While the registration is not mandatory, the ministry emphasised its importance given recent international developments. Global events ranging from natural disasters to geopolitical instability have underscored the need for Malaysian authorities to maintain updated contact information for citizens overseas.
The E-Konsular platform enables the Foreign Ministry to quickly identify and communicate with registered Malaysians in affected regions during crises, facilitating timely evacuation or emergency assistance. Through the system, citizens can also notify the ministry of their whereabouts and receive updates on safety alerts.
Malaysians working, studying, or residing abroad are urged to register their details voluntarily to ensure they remain protected under the ministry's crisis response mechanisms. The move reflects growing concerns about the unpredictability of global events and the need for proactive preparedness measures.
