Malaysia urges crackdown on MM2H participants engaged in unauthorised business
Malaysia's Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister has called for stricter enforcement against MM2H visa holders who engage in commercial activities, in violation of the programme's conditions.

The minister emphasised the need for decisive action against Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) participants who breach programme rules by conducting business operations despite explicit prohibitions.
The MM2H scheme, designed to attract long-term foreign residents to Malaysia, carries specific conditions that prohibit visa holders from engaging in any form of commercial activity or employment within the country. However, enforcement lapses have allowed some participants to circumvent these restrictions.
Official concerns have grown as reports indicate a number of MM2H visa holders continue to operate businesses while maintaining their programme status. Such violations undermine the integrity of the scheme and create unfair competitive advantages against legitimate Malaysian business operators.
The minister's call for stricter measures signals the government's commitment to enforcing existing regulations more rigorously. Authorities are expected to step up monitoring and implement stronger penalties against violators to ensure compliance with MM2H programme conditions and maintain the scheme's credibility among both participants and the local business community.
