KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia has proposed a science-based cooperative framework coupled with long-term funding commitments to combat transboundary haze, a recurring environmental challenge affecting multiple Southeast Asian nations.
The proposal emphasises the need for evidence-driven strategies grounded in scientific research and data-sharing among regional partners. By establishing a coordinated, research-informed approach, Malaysia seeks to move beyond ad-hoc responses to the seasonal haze phenomenon that periodically blankets the region and impacts public health and economic activity.
Central to Malaysia's initiative is the establishment of a dedicated, sustainable funding mechanism at the ASEAN level.
