Malaysian Armed Forces to establish rehabilitation centres for special needs children

The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has announced plans to establish at least one Community Rehabilitation Centre at major military camps nationwide, marking a significant expansion of social services within defence infrastructure.

The initiative aims to make specialist rehabilitation services more accessible to families with children requiring developmental and therapeutic support. By utilising existing military facilities, the MAF intends to bridge service gaps in communities where such programmes are currently limited or unavailable.

The centres are expected to offer comprehensive support including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and educational assistance tailored to children with various special needs. Military medical personnel and trained specialists would oversee operations at the facilities.

This move reflects the MAF's commitment to contributing to broader national social welfare objectives while leveraging its organisational capacity and resources. The defence ministry is expected to coordinate with health and social welfare departments to ensure the centres meet established standards and integrate effectively with existing community health services.
