Sarwar, who was born in Malaysia, held senior positions at the Cardiff-based educational institution, which serves students preparing for advanced qualifications. The charges against her relate to allegations of financial misconduct spanning her tenure at the college.
The nine counts encompass both theft and fraud offences, with prosecutors alleging misappropriation of institutional funds totalling around £5 million. Sarwar's legal team has entered not guilty pleas across all charges.
The case has drawn attention to governance and financial oversight procedures at UK educational institutions. Cardiff Sixth Form College is one of Wales' largest independent sixth form colleges, and the allegations have prompted scrutiny of internal controls and trustee accountability mechanisms.
The trial proceedings at Merthyr Crown Court are expected to examine detailed financial records and transaction documentation related to Sarwar's management of college funds during her time in leadership roles. The case continues through the Welsh court system.
