Malaysian childcare centres remain open despite air quality concerns from haze

Childcare centres across Malaysia will remain open during the current haze episode, according to the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. Minister Nancy Shukri confirmed that no closures have been implemented despite air quality concerns affecting the region.

However, operators and staff at childcare facilities have been advised to keep children indoors and restrict outdoor play activities as a safeguard against prolonged exposure to polluted air. The measure aims to minimise health risks while maintaining regular childcare operations.

The advisory reflects a cautious approach by authorities balancing the need for continued childcare services with public health concerns. Parents and caregivers are being encouraged to monitor air quality indices in their areas and take appropriate precautions.

The haze, a recurring issue in Southeast Asia during certain seasons, has prompted various preventive measures across sectors. Health authorities continue to advise the public, particularly vulnerable groups including children and the elderly, to reduce outdoor exposure during periods of poor air quality.
