The animal rescue organisation, which has operated for nearly two decades, requires RM60,000 monthly to maintain its shelters but is struggling to secure adequate resources.

Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) is confronting an uncertain future as financial constraints threaten the welfare of approximately 400 dogs currently in its care across multiple facilities.
The organisation, which has been rescuing and rehabilitating stray dogs for 18 years, requires RM60,000 each month to sustain its shelter operations, veterinary services, and animal care programmes. According to the shelter's assessment, this operational budget covers essential expenses including food, medical treatment, staffing, and facility maintenance.
The funding shortfall comes as MDDB continues to receive stray and abandoned dogs from communities across Malaysia. The organisation has built a reputation for its rescue efforts and rehabilitation work, providing shelter animals with medical care and attempting to find suitable adoptive homes.
Without sustained financial support, the charity faces difficult decisions about its capacity to house and care for the dogs currently in its facilities. Animal welfare advocates have highlighted the critical need for increased public donations and corporate sponsorship to ensure the organisation can continue its rescue operations.
The situation underscores broader challenges facing animal welfare organisations in Malaysia, where funding limitations often restrict the number of animals that rescue centres can accommodate and care for.
