Malaysian peacekeepers in Lebanon to return home from January

Defence Minister Khaled Nordin announced that Malaysian troops serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) are scheduled to complete their deployment and commence their homeward journey starting January.

The announcement comes as the current mandate for Malaysia's battalion operations in the country concludes at the end of December. The timing aligns with the conclusion of the broader peacekeeping mission's authorised period.

Malaysia has maintained a significant military presence in Lebanon as part of the UN peacekeeping force, contributing to regional stability efforts in the Middle East. The decision to wind down operations reflects the completion of the designated mandate period for the deployment.

The Defence Ministry is expected to coordinate the logistics of repatriating personnel and equipment to ensure a smooth transition. Further details regarding the exact timeline and coordination of the withdrawal process are anticipated to be provided in the coming weeks.
