The woman, identified as a Malaysian national, fell into the concealed pit while hiking in the Da Lat area on October 25. The incident occurred in a section of the Central Highlands where such natural hazards are not uncommon, particularly during trekking expeditions in less-developed terrain.
Local authorities and rescue personnel responded swiftly to the incident, mobilising teams to extract the hiker from the deep hole. The rescue operation posed considerable challenges given the depth of the pit and the need to ensure the woman's safe removal without further injury.
The woman was successfully extracted and transferred to medical personnel for assessment and treatment of injuries sustained in the fall. Details regarding the severity of her injuries and her current condition were not immediately disclosed.
The incident serves as a reminder of the hazards hikers may encounter in remote areas of Vietnam, particularly in mountainous regions where natural features such as sinkholes and concealed pits may not be clearly marked. Tourism authorities in Da Lat have not yet issued new safety advisories following the incident.
