Mamata backs CJP, Gen Z at INDIA bloc rally; slams SIR policy

At a gathering of INDIA bloc leaders, Banerjee extended her backing to the opposition coalition's outreach to Gen Z voters, underscoring the need to engage younger demographics in political discourse. The West Bengal Chief Minister reiterated her party's commitment to working within the broader opposition framework ahead of upcoming electoral contests.

Critiquing the SIR programme, Banerjee reinterpreted the acronym as "Special Intensive Relief," asserting that the exercise amounts to preferential treatment for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party while marginalising non-aligned states. She contended that Bengal, under her administration, has been systematically disadvantaged by central government policies and resource allocation decisions.

Banerjee's remarks align with broader INDIA bloc messaging that portrays the centre as weaponising administrative machinery against opposition-ruled states. The Chief Minister's statements come at a time of heightened political tensions between state and central governments, with several opposition-controlled states challenging various central directives through legal and political channels.
