Authorities in Thane have apprehended a man wanted for attacking a cricket umpire with a bat in an incident dating back to 1988. The suspect, identified as Pasi, was arrested at his residence in the Mira Road area following a prolonged investigation that spanned over three decades.
The assault, which occurred during a cricket match, left investigators pursuing the case over the years despite the passage of time. The umpire's injuries from the bat attack had prompted authorities to lodge an attempt to murder case against the then-accused.
Pasi's arrest comes as law enforcement agencies continue efforts to track down offenders from historical criminal cases. The arrest was made after police located the fugitive through their investigative records and surveillance operations in the Mira Road locality.
The accused is currently in police custody and faces formal charges related to the decades-old incident. Investigators say the case demonstrates the persistence of law enforcement in pursuing justice, even when significant time has elapsed since the alleged crime.
