Man arrested as alleged money handler for major drug trafficker

Sri Lankan authorities arrested a man suspected of managing cash collections for large-scale drug trafficker Salindu Malshitha Gunaratne, known locally as "Panadura Kudu Salindu," according to police statements. The suspect and his wife were detained late on September 17 by officers from the Mt. Lavinia Police Headquarters during an operation targeting alleged heroin distribution activities.

The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the Western Province. Police indicated the suspect played a financial role within the trafficking organisation, handling money generated through narcotics sales.

The couple remains in police custody as investigations continue into their alleged involvement in the drug distribution network. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding charges or court proceedings in the case.
