Thiruvananthapuram: Police have apprehended a man identified as Ashish in connection with an assault on prison officer Prajith at Chala market in Thiruvananthapuram on July 18. The accused, described as a habitual offender with a criminal history, is alleged to have attacked the prison official during a confrontation at the market.
According to police reports, the assault stemmed from a previous enmity between the two men. The incident drew attention to security concerns around prison staff operating in public spaces and highlighted tensions that occasionally arise between correctional personnel and individuals with prior run-ins with the law.
The arrested man has been taken into custody pending further investigation. Police have registered a case against Ashish under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to attempted murder and criminal intimidation. The Kerala Prison Department was expected to review the circumstances surrounding the attack.
