Man arrested for elaborate romance scams targeting Delhi police women constables

Police in the National Capital Region have arrested Vikrant Tomar, a resident of Bagpat, on charges of running an extensive romance scam targeting female constables with the Delhi Police. The suspect allegedly employed a calculated strategy to identify and exploit women officers, using displays of wealth and false marriage promises to extract money from his victims.

The modus operandi typically involved Tomar impressing women constables by offering rides in expensive vehicles to demonstrate his financial status, followed by romantic overtures and eventual proposals of marriage. Once victims agreed to marry him, he would request money for various purported needs, subsequently disappearing with the funds.

Investigators have documented a confirmed case involving one female constable from whom Tomar allegedly defrauded 24 lakh rupees. However, the scope of the investigation has expanded significantly following preliminary interviews with other potential victims.

Due diligence investigations are currently underway to establish connections between Tomar and approximately 20 female constables, with police working to determine the full extent of fraudulent transactions. Officers are examining financial records and conducting witness statements to build a comprehensive picture of the alleged criminal pattern. The case highlights vulnerabilities that have prompted departmental authorities to issue awareness advisories to personnel regarding common fraud tactics.
