A 21-year-old woman died from stab wounds inflicted by her acquaintance in an incident near Nerul railway station in Navi Mumbai, authorities said Tuesday. The accused, identified as Danish Ansari, was arrested following the October 21 death of Sadia Shaikh.
According to police, Ansari and Shaikh had been friends for approximately four years. On October 20, Ansari allegedly attacked Shaikh with a knife following a dispute. Investigators said Ansari became upset over what he perceived as indifference from the victim.
Shaikh was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to her injuries the following day. Navi Mumbai police registered a murder case and took Ansari into custody for questioning, leading to his arrest.
The case highlights recurring incidents of violence stemming from personal disputes in the Mumbai metropolitan region. Police said further investigations are underway to determine additional circumstances surrounding the attack.
