Man arrested for hostage-taking, extortion and murder on Indian train

Authorities in Varanasi have apprehended a man identified as Rohit in connection with the death of 21-year-old Nitin Kumar on a train in the Buxar railway section. According to police accounts, the suspect held Kumar hostage aboard the moving train while demanding 10,000 rupees from his family. After the alleged extortion attempt, the suspect allegedly bound Kumar's hands and feet before throwing him from the train. Investigators have described the accused as a habitual offender with a history of criminal activity.
