Police in Kanpur have arrested a man identified as Devendra Dubey for allegedly impersonating a Chief Executive Officer at a company in Gwalior using fraudulent documents. The accused managed to draw a monthly salary of Rs 2.80 lakh while working under false pretences for an extended period.
According to investigators, Dubey secured the executive position by submitting forged bank statements and counterfeit experience letters to the company's recruitment team. The fraud remained undetected during his tenure, allowing him to continue receiving his salary package without raising suspicion among senior management.
The deception unraveled when the company initiated final settlement procedures following Dubey's resignation. During the exit process, the human resources department conducted verification checks on his credentials and discovered the documents were fabricated. The discrepancies prompted immediate notification to law enforcement agencies.
The Crime Branch launched an investigation and traced Dubey to Kanpur, where officers apprehended him. Authorities are now examining whether similar fraudulent practices were employed at other organizations. The case highlights vulnerabilities in background verification processes during hiring and the importance of thorough credential validation by human resources departments.
