Man arrested for posing as IAS officer, defrauding job seekers in Gujarat

Authorities in Anand have apprehended a fraudster who posed as an IAS officer and deputy collector to dupe unsuspecting job seekers, police said on Monday. The accused allegedly promised to secure government positions, including postings as naib tahsildar (junior revenue official), in exchange for substantial payments.

The scheme came to light after complaints from multiple victims who realized they had been defrauded of approximately ₹7.7 lakh. Investigators said the suspect created an elaborate facade, using forged identity documents and fabricated official credentials to establish credibility with his targets.

Police conducted a search of the accused's premises and recovered fake identification cards, a laptop, and various forged documents used in perpetrating the fraud. These materials were allegedly used to deceive victims and maintain the illusion of official authority.

The arrest underscores the vulnerability of job aspirants seeking government employment in India, where competition for coveted civil service positions remains intense. Authorities have cautioned the public against engaging with unofficial intermediaries claiming to facilitate government job placements and urged citizens to verify credentials through official channels.
