Authorities in Kerala have arrested a suspect for allegedly distributing digitally altered images of Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, president of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) state unit. The morphed photographs were reportedly circulated through a WhatsApp group titled 'Nannambra Politics' along with offensive and abusive language directed at the political leader.
The complaint, filed based on information from IUML members, highlighted the circulation of the doctored images as part of what appears to be a coordinated effort to defame the senior politician. The use of fabricated content combined with derogatory remarks raised concerns about the misuse of digital platforms for spreading false and damaging material.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns across India regarding the circulation of morphed images and misinformation on social media platforms. Authorities have been increasingly vigilant in cracking down on individuals who use digital tools to create and spread false content intended to damage reputations or incite communal tensions.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with police examining the digital evidence and attempting to identify whether other individuals were involved in the circulation of the material.
