Man arrested for stealing Rs 1.10 crore from girlfriend's home to fund panchayat bid

Gopal Jakhad, a resident of Rajasthan, has been arrested by Indore police on charges of theft following the burglary at his girlfriend's house in the city. According to the police investigation, the accused made away with gold ornaments, cash and a smartphone valued at approximately Rs 1.10 crore.
The theft came to light when the girlfriend discovered items missing from her residence and filed a complaint with the local authorities. During interrogation, Jakhad allegedly confessed that he orchestrated the burglary to accumulate funds for his campaign as a sarpanch candidate.
Police officials stated that the accused had planned to contest elections for the position of village headman and believed he needed substantial financial resources to mount a competitive campaign. The investigation revealed that Jakhad had targeted his girlfriend's home specifically to gather the necessary funds.
The stolen items, including gold biscuits and an iPhone 17, were recovered during the investigation. The Indore police have registered a formal case against Jakhad under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Officials said further investigations are underway to determine if any accomplices were involved in the crime.
