Man faces decade in prison for kite incident at Saigon airport

Police in Ho Chi Minh City have taken the man into custody following the incident at Vietnam's busiest airport. The kites strayed into the critical airspace used by arriving aircraft, prompting air traffic controllers to halt all incoming flights as a precautionary measure.

The operational halt lasted 35 minutes before landing operations resumed once the airspace was cleared of the obstructions. The disruption affected 16 scheduled arrivals, creating delays and logistical complications for passengers and airport operations.

Investigations into the incident revealed the man had been flying kites in an area near the airport's flight path. Authorities have not disclosed details about whether the kite flying was intentional or the result of negligence, though the proximity to such a sensitive facility has prompted formal charges.

Under Vietnamese law, activities that endanger aviation safety carry severe penalties. The suspect now faces potential imprisonment of up to 10 years, reflecting the serious consequences of disrupting operations at a major international hub.
