The arrest was made as the man attempted to either bring the undeclared jewellery into the country or remove it from the airport, according to authorities. Officers from the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau detected the consignment during routine screening procedures.

The gold jewellery, valued in excess of Rs. 30 million, was seized as part of the operation. The recovery underscores ongoing efforts by airport security personnel to prevent the illicit movement of high-value goods through the nation's primary international aviation hub.

The suspect has been taken into custody for further questioning and investigation. The case is being processed by the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau, which handles contraband and smuggling matters at Bandaranaike International Airport.

Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the circumstances of the alleged smuggling attempt or the intended destination of the jewellery.
