Police arrested the suspect while he was in possession of the controlled substance in the Hokandara locality. The quantity of cannabis, commonly known as 'Kush' in street markets, was discovered during a routine check or targeted operation in the area.
The arrest comes as Sri Lankan law enforcement continues to intensify crackdowns on drug trafficking networks operating across the country. Hokandara, located in the Colombo District, has previously been identified as an area of concern for narcotics-related activity.
The suspect has been taken into custody and is expected to face charges under the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. Authorities are investigating whether the individual was acting as a courier for a larger distribution network or operating independently.
The seizure has been recorded and forwarded to relevant authorities for further processing. Police have indicated that investigations are ongoing to identify any connections to other trafficking operations in the region.
