A district court here has sentenced a man to custodial punishment and corporal punishment for sexually assaulting an intoxicated female acquaintance and filming the incident without her knowledge or permission.

The 24-year-old offender committed the assault after inviting the woman to his residence. Taking advantage of her intoxicated state, he carried out the sexual assault and used a device to record the act.

The victim was unaware of both the assault and the recording at the time of the incident. The case came to light following her discovery of what had transpired, leading to a police report and subsequent investigation.

The court's decision to impose both imprisonment and caning reflects the severity of the offences, which included sexual assault and recording intimate acts without consent. The sentencing underscores the judiciary's stance on sexual crimes and violations of personal privacy.

The case adds to ongoing concerns about sexual offences in the city-state, with authorities continuing to emphasize the serious consequences for perpetrators of such crimes.
