Man jailed, caned for concealing knife in shoe at Changi Airport

Syaifudin Alfitroh, 32, was apprehended at Changi Airport after airport security screened him during pre-flight procedures and uncovered a concealed knife in his shoe. He was preparing to depart for Indonesia when the discovery was made.

Alfitroh pleaded guilty to the offence of carrying a prohibited item through airport security. During court proceedings, he claimed that a friend had asked him to transport the knife, and he had agreed to do so by concealing it in his footwear.

The district court imposed a custodial sentence along with caning as punishment for the breach of Singapore's strict weapons regulations. The case underscores the airport's robust security protocols in detecting prohibited items before passengers board flights.

Singapore's airport authorities maintain stringent screening procedures to prevent the movement of weapons and other dangerous items through its terminals. Possession and transportation of knives and similar weapons are heavily restricted under local legislation.
