A court has convicted and imprisoned a man for choking his teenage son and daughter in separate incidents. The assaults occurred between August 2025 and February 2026, a period during which the man was serving a remission order—a conditional release programme that allows offenders to serve the remainder of their sentences in the community under strict conditions.
In one incident, the man attacked his daughter after suspecting she was vaping. The assault escalated to choking, constituting a serious breach of his parental responsibilities and the terms of his remission. His son was subjected to similar violence in another separate incident during the same period.
The severity of the offences, combined with their commission during an active remission period, aggravated the sentencing considerations. Courts in Singapore typically view breaches of remission orders as serious violations that undermine the rehabilitation framework and community safety measures.
The case underscores concerns about domestic violence and the importance of monitoring compliance with remission conditions. Authorities have emphasized that remission orders are granted on the understanding that offenders will refrain from further criminal activity and maintain lawful behaviour within their households.
