The fatality occurred in Barangay Sinandigan when heavy accumulation of earth and rock material gave way, trapping the resident, according to the Puerto Galera Municipal Police Station. The local police unit received a request for assistance from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office following the incident. Rescue operations were subsequently launched to retrieve the victim from the debris.

The landslide adds to concerns over geological hazards in the mountainous terrain of Oriental Mindoro, where heavy rains and unstable soil conditions can trigger such incidents. Puerto Galera, a popular tourist destination on the northern coast of Mindoro island, has experienced similar natural disasters in the past.

The police did not disclose additional details regarding the exact circumstances of the landslide or whether other individuals were affected. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office was expected to conduct further assessment of the affected area.
