Man nabbed at Penang airport with RM3.2m cannabis shipment to London

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 2 — Authorities arrested the suspect at Penang International Airport while he was in possession of cannabis buds with an estimated street value of RM3.2 million, according to a police statement released today. The 40-kilogramme haul was discovered during routine security screening, with investigators determining the consignment was destined for London.

The arrest marks a significant development in the Penang police's intensified crackdown on drug trafficking through the state's international gateway. The suspect is expected to be charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties including lengthy imprisonment and substantial fines.

Separately, police reported seizing drugs valued at RM1.05 million during operations in the Jelutong district, underscoring the scale of narcotics circulation in the region. The busts coincide with heightened awareness campaigns by law enforcement agencies targeting international drug smuggling networks.

The Penang police narcotics division has intensified airport patrols and coordination with customs officials in recent months as part of broader efforts to stem the flow of illicit drugs through Malaysian ports of entry. Investigations into both seizures are ongoing.
