A jewellery shop in Mauranipur, Jhansi fell victim to theft on Monday when a man posing as an ascetic allegedly engaged the owner in conversation before fleeing with gold and cash.
The suspect, dressed in the garb of an Aghori sadhu, entered the shop and engaged the jeweller in prolonged discussion. According to the shopkeeper's account, the man's tactics left him disoriented, allowing the suspect to make off with valuables and currency.
The jeweller, who initially struggled to comprehend what had occurred, subsequently approached police with a complaint. He attributed the incident to hypnosis, suggesting the suspect had used psychological manipulation to distract him during the theft.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident. However, authorities have dismissed the hypnosis theory, characterizing it instead as a straightforward case of theft through distraction. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspect.
