Man subjected to public humiliation over financial dispute in Andhra Pradesh

A 30-year-old man fell victim to public humiliation and alleged assault in Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh, in connection with a financial disagreement, authorities said on Monday.

According to police reports, the man was held overnight in a mechanic's shed where he was assaulted by others involved in the dispute. He was subsequently paraded shirtless through Ramachandra Rajupeta with a noose around his neck—an act of public shaming authorities said violated the man's dignity and fundamental rights.

The incident, which centred on a ₹30,000 dispute, prompted police intervention after details of the confinement and humiliation surfaced. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter and registered a formal case against those allegedly responsible for the assault and unlawful confinement.

The case highlights continuing concerns about extrajudicial punishments and mob justice in parts of the state. Police reminded the public that such acts constitute serious criminal offences under Indian law and urged citizens to resolve disputes through legal channels.
