LUCENA CITY — A man drowned in a river in Sariaya town, Quezon on Tuesday afternoon after being swept away by powerful currents unleashed by heavy rainfall, according to police reports.
The victim, identified as Armando, a resident of Barangay Sampaloc Bogon, entered the river at approximately 4 p.m. to check on his cattle. He did not return home, prompting authorities to launch a search.
Police said the 47-year-old was unable to withstand the force of the swollen waterway, which had been intensified by ongoing rains in the area. The strong currents proved too powerful for him to navigate safely.
The incident underscores the dangers posed by flooded waterways during periods of heavy precipitation, when river conditions can rapidly become hazardous. Local authorities continue to urge residents in flood-prone areas to exercise extreme caution when crossing swollen bodies of water.
