Man wielding machete damages ATM, injures youth in apparent cash withdrawal dispute

A young man has been hospitalised with severe injuries after an encounter with a machete-wielding suspect at an ATM, police said. The 21-year-old victim sustained serious wounds to his left hand when he allegedly tried to stop the suspect from damaging the machine.

The incident occurred when the suspect, apparently frustrated after failing to withdraw cash from the ATM, turned to vandalism. Police said the suspect used a machete to damage the machine during the altercation.

When the youth intervened in an attempt to prevent further damage, he was allegedly slashed by the suspect wielding the machete. The victim was subsequently hospitalised for treatment of his injuries.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter and are working to identify and apprehend the suspect. The incident highlights concerns over safety at banking facilities and the risks posed by individuals engaging in destructive behaviour when transactions fail to proceed as expected.
