Manila dengue cases surge past 4,000 mark this year

Manila has confirmed 4,048 dengue cases since January 1, according to the latest health surveillance data. The city documented 31 additional dengue infections on Monday alone, underscoring the ongoing intensity of the outbreak across the metropolis.

Beyond dengue, Manila's disease burden extends to other communicable illnesses. Health officials recorded 28 new cases of influenza-like illness, two cases of severe acute respiratory infection, and one case of leptospirosis on the same reporting day.

Mayor Isko Moreno has called public attention to the outbreak situation, urging residents to take preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases. The continued spike in cases reflects seasonal patterns typical of the dengue season in the Philippines, which typically peaks during the rainy months.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation and have implemented vector control measures in affected barangays. Residents are advised to eliminate standing water, use mosquito repellent, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms of dengue—including fever, headache, and muscle pain—develop.
